Wyoming Fish And Game Hearing - Saturday, January 30, 2010
WYOPA Members. Please read and consider the following message. Your participation will help us address the present and future needs of Pilots and Hunters in Wyoming. One of the purposes of our organization is to give us a powerful voice against those that would limit our freedoms or place access to public lands in the hands of land owners seeking to profit from these regulations.

DEAR SIR,

I am writing you as a leader of a major Wyoming Pilot Organization. The Wyoming Game & Fish is having a Commission hearing this March to implement draft language regarding using aircraft or air vehicles, ultralights etc. to access land-locked public lands. The public hunters of Wyoming have a vested interest to ensure large ranchers and land owners do not try and block the public from using these public lands. The only way to legally access hundreds of thousands of land locked public acreage is through the use of air vehicles. I would appreciate your organizations support and ability to mobilize the public to continue the use of these important public lands for not only hunting but access in general. Another concern I have is the state has a current policy to not allow flying of aircraft within 24 hours of hunting. I would like to consider a proposal to change this to 6 hours. The main reason is many of the public land locked parcels are state lands and you cannot camp on state lands currently overnight. This would effectively render all land locked state land unusable. I am attaching a copy of a letter confirming these hearings sent to me from the Director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Best Regards

Brent Petersen, HUNTER, PILOT

We are organizing a statewide Wyoming Pilots' Association, in cooperation with the Wyoming Aeronautics Commission, and are inviting all pilots and aviation professionals and enthusiasts in Wyoming to participate. A temporary administration has been set up to begin the organization. Permanent leadership and advisory board members will be selected by nomination and voting by pilots statewide soon. Leadership and advisory board positions will be elected, but unpaid and voluntary.

WYOPA will be organized as an independent, non-profit association yet will maintain strong ties to state and local aviation organizations. The membership will initially be free with minimal future costs to cover mailings and website hosting (if required).
